00:01:48.530back when Batman Arkham City was first

00:01:51.110released I was just starting out as

00:01:52.970completionist leading games a weekly

00:01:55.040basis was still pretty new to me and it

00:01:57.410more than took its toll on my

00:01:58.850recreational gaming basically it was

00:02:01.250hard to play games for fun because I was

00:02:03.679too busy playing games for real cuz that

00:02:07.280was my job that makes sense

00:02:09.259big sense I bought Arkham City on day

00:02:12.110one sat down the plant and just after

00:02:14.780about an hour of gameplay I kind of lost

00:02:17.930motivation to play it and I hate to

00:02:20.030admit it but I have yet to revisit that

00:02:22.250game since that is until today the

00:02:25.640Batman would not just walk away from

00:02:26.900unfinished business and neither will I

00:02:29.209so according to the general consensus of

00:02:31.640the Internet there is a lot of stuff in

00:02:34.459Arkham City including over a dozen side

00:02:37.519quests and 100 unique challenge map

00:02:40.430challenges to DLC mini campaigns and a

00:02:44.360full completions experience that

00:02:46.160supposedly clocks in just about average

00:02:48.860under 48 hours so let's find out if I

00:02:52.340can beat that time and if I'm worthy of

00:02:54.769a mantle is known as the bat in my

00:02:57.170playthrough of Batman Arkham City

00:03:06.720when Batman Arkham Asylum hits stores in

00:03:09.9002009 it seemed to come out of nowhere

00:03:12.660and blindsided everyone just like Batman

00:03:16.130what are you drawing back then there

00:03:18.690really was no such thing as a truly

00:03:20.580great Batman video game so this

00:03:22.890mysterious little title was met with

00:03:24.750very low expectations but ended up

00:03:27.150impressing just about everyone it didn't

00:03:29.370take long for fans to begin salivating

00:03:31.350for a sequel but this time their

00:03:33.450expectations were pretty damn high

00:03:35.730fortunately the developers of the Arkham

00:03:37.770Batman games Rocksteady Studios

00:03:39.720began work on a follow-up almost

00:03:42.120immediately after the originals

00:03:43.800development had concluded in addition to

00:03:45.690improving on the combat exploration

00:03:47.850puzzles and the story the dev set out to

00:03:50.580innovate whenever they could as opposed

00:03:52.800to just adding more of the same stuff

00:03:54.450what we ended up getting was a game that

00:03:56.400was even bigger badder and badder better

00:04:02.600despite the great anticipation of Batman

00:04:05.280Arkham City it went on to become the

00:04:06.990most widely beloved entry in the Arkham

00:04:09.210franchise it's kind of like Arkham

00:04:11.250Asylum is - Batman Begins as Arkham City

00:04:13.770is - the Dark Knight a perfect

00:04:15.630comparison with Batman games and movies

00:04:17.640yeah Arkham City is one of the most

00:04:22.020popular games from the previous console

00:04:25.680reasons but the most important one out

00:05:59.420grinder shortly afterwards Hugo Strange

00:06:02.330admits to knowing Bruce Wayne's true

00:06:04.070identity as Batman and that an ominous

00:06:06.680event called protocol 10 will soon

00:06:08.840commence after breaking out of his

00:06:10.490handcuffs and breaking the Penguins hand

00:06:12.380Bruce calls in a little air support once

00:06:14.750he is geared up Batman sets out to

00:06:16.580discover the secrets behind Hugo Strange

00:06:31.430and novel premise but the idea of a

00:06:33.920facility like Arkham City existing

00:06:35.840within Gotham is a bit hard to swallow

00:06:40.100disbelief is all it takes to kick off a

00:06:41.690Batman story this badass

00:06:44.190yeah I'm willing to pay the toll the

00:06:46.650plot is complex and surprising and

00:06:48.720that's not even including the optional

00:06:50.130side-quests with everything that's

00:06:51.960included in this game's story

00:06:53.670it ends up truly feeling like a night

00:07:09.200at the time of its release Batman Arkham

00:07:12.270City was more than just the greatest

00:07:13.860Batman came of all time it was the most

00:07:15.840accurate Batman simulator ever created

00:07:36.840they each turn out stellar performances

00:07:41.400voice of Batman hello Talia and the

00:07:46.770wonderful and truly talented Mark Hamill

00:07:49.770as the Joker you will people should do

00:07:55.560these two put on one hell of a show and

00:07:58.780the twisting plot takes them to places

00:08:00.669that neither character has been before

00:08:02.289the music has been seriously amped up

00:08:05.169this time around for example the simple

00:08:07.449musical motif of Arkham Asylum has been

00:08:14.770far longer than anyone should and the

00:08:16.840sound effects are still some of the most

00:08:18.580immersive aspects of this game hearing

00:08:21.099the crunching of bone and the screams of

00:08:23.169your victim sure goes a long way toward

00:08:25.599making the player feel like that man the

00:08:27.669characters look wonderful in detail from

00:08:29.979Batman's suit getting progressively

00:08:31.719messed up as the night goes on to the

00:08:33.820intricacies of the outfit of your

00:08:35.380average goon everyone tells their own

00:08:37.690story without words but the level of

00:08:40.149detail in the backgrounds is where

00:08:41.890things start to get ridiculous

00:08:44.560not only are there landmarks from

00:08:46.570Batman's history everywhere you look the

00:08:48.640four main areas of the city are so

00:08:50.800unique in their details that you can

00:08:52.600almost always tell exactly where you are

00:08:54.970just by checking out the architecture

00:08:56.920and the atmosphere there's no way you'll

00:08:59.050ever mistake the glass domes with the

00:09:00.880bowery for the Drowned highways of

00:09:02.829amusement mile sometimes all you have to

00:09:14.680map the games world may have gotten a

00:09:16.570lot bigger but the level of detail has

00:09:18.640not suffered one bit every facet of the

00:09:21.519game is working together to create an

00:09:23.350experience that puts you in an accurate

00:09:25.660representation of Batman's world the

00:09:30.459feel more like him is if you actually

00:09:32.800went out and bought crime yourself you

00:10:10.190a lot less linear Batman has left the

00:10:12.500corridors of the asylum for an

00:10:13.940open-world

00:10:14.840complete with optional side-quests

00:10:16.850that's right if you feel like taking a

00:10:19.280break from that main storyline then you

00:10:20.930can tackle a side quest such as solving

00:10:23.270a murder solving another murder or

00:10:25.670answering phone calls from the murderer

00:10:29.740my money damn being Batman is morbid the

00:10:35.720combat that's become synonymous with the

00:10:37.670Arkham series is more responsive and

00:10:39.980open-ended than ever the game still

00:10:42.020rewards you for messing up your moves as

00:10:43.820much as possible which is even more fun

00:10:45.770than challenging now that Batman's got

00:10:47.900lots of brand-new moves in his arsenal

00:10:50.000the predator segments are back to having

00:10:52.370also received some nice upgrades for

00:10:54.710instance it's no longer a great idea to

00:10:57.080just leave Batman's detective mode on

00:11:24.650perceptive is way more rewarding and

00:12:09.690feels great to be able to regain lost

00:12:16.620use it to glide from one end of the city

00:12:18.390to the other without ever touching the

00:13:25.440trophies riddles and a our scavenger

00:13:28.050hunts all returned but also you have to

00:13:30.540use plenty of Batman's gadgets to solve

00:13:32.850certain puzzles as well as perform some

00:13:35.010physical feats adding their locations to

00:13:37.680your map isn't done by collecting with

00:13:39.630their maps anymore instead you'll have

00:13:41.640to hunt down and interrogate Riddler's

00:13:43.350informants throughout the city they're

00:13:45.030marked with the green outline and

00:13:46.560threatening them is a ton of fun lie to

00:13:48.660me if you're done eating solid food

00:13:50.850because threatening people's is great

00:13:52.590there's a lot more variation meeting all

00:13:54.840of the Riddler's challenges which is

00:13:56.580good since there's a lot more of them

00:13:58.020this time around like a lot more no take

00:14:01.050whatever number you're thinking of

00:14:02.250triple it no quadruple it then put a

00:14:05.310zero behind it something like that

00:14:07.500everyday thugs and Titan monsters make a

00:14:09.750return but they're also joined by

00:14:11.640armored baddies one-armed brutes and

00:14:14.090freaking ninjas the bosses are much more

00:14:20.370improved in Arkham City too with each

00:14:22.230offering unique gameplay and impressive

00:14:24.150set pieces for those of you who remember

00:14:25.860this was my biggest problem with Arkham

00:14:27.900Asylum

00:14:30.410the best boss fight has to be mr. freeze

00:14:33.660though every time you use one of your

00:14:35.399abilities to damage him he'll either

00:14:37.230adapt himself or alter the environment

00:18:00.060more times and Clayface will pack it in

00:18:02.490once the fight is over Batman takes a

00:18:04.770swig of the cure but hesitates when

00:18:06.870considering whether or not to share it

00:18:08.310with the Joker but before he can even

00:18:10.350come to a decision

00:18:11.670Joker stabs Batman causing him to

00:18:14.280accidentally drop the Cure as Joker

00:18:16.500hacks out his last few laughs babbit

00:19:08.200have to finish the side quests in order

00:19:09.910to beat the game but doing so will offer

00:19:11.860some cool insight into Batman's foes

00:19:13.600some closure on certain flatbreads and a

00:19:16.720little foreshadowing for future events

00:19:18.460but the biggest pain-in-the-ass side

00:19:21.220quest of all is undoubtedly surprise

00:19:23.830surprise the Riddler's there's just so

00:19:27.250many god damn Riddler challenges in the

00:19:30.850game and I'm surprised that Batman

00:19:32.800doesn't just snap the [ __ ] scrawny

00:19:35.050neck when he finally meets up with him

00:19:36.490they're not difficult to decipher or

00:19:38.710even hard to find they're just

00:19:40.980everywhere don't beat yourself up if you

00:19:44.440don't have the motivation to collect

00:19:45.970them all but if you do you'll get the

00:19:48.280sweet satisfaction of punching Riddler

00:19:50.530square in the smug jaw catharsis beating

00:19:57.100the game unlocks new game+ which allows

00:19:59.380you to play through the game once more

00:20:01.090with all your gadgets and upgrades

00:20:02.920already unlocked the enemies may be

00:20:04.960tougher and there are no counter

00:20:06.370indicators but you know what none of

00:20:08.110that matters you don't have to collect

00:20:50.140challenge maps which you can play as

00:20:54.910various combat and predator tests of

00:20:57.190skill if you thought there were a lot of

00:20:58.840Riddler trophies wait till you have to

00:21:10.030launched by achieving high scores and

00:21:12.010completing various tasks during your

00:21:14.020challenges there are a whole lot of them

00:21:17.080and due to the faculty to collect them

00:21:21.070characters this mode is definitely where

00:21:23.560most of your time will go if you're

00:21:25.960attempting to complete the actual game
