00:00:27.640was my mom and I'm sure other moms too a

00:00:30.759new Mario game isn't like any other game

00:00:32.800release it's more of a global event

00:00:34.210honestly everyone knows and cares about

00:00:38.710before we dive deep into any mechanics

00:00:40.600of the game the first thing you need to

00:00:41.980look at is the fun factor is this game

00:01:08.799feels like Mario is freshest and most

00:01:12.130other Mario game Bowser kidnaps Princess

00:01:14.049Peach and that's up to Mario to stop him

00:01:15.909and rescue her but this time around it

00:01:17.679only has he captured peach but he's also

00:01:19.780captured tiara the sister of Cappy oh

00:01:22.119yeah Cappy is Mario his newest sidekick

00:01:24.280he's also the biggest gameplay mechanic

00:01:26.200in the entire game as I'm sure you

00:01:27.939already know Mario can throw copy at

00:01:29.829certain enemies and he possesses them or

00:01:31.780captures them if you will and with each

00:01:34.090capture actually comes a whole new set

00:01:36.130of abilities but you'll have your

00:01:37.719disposal you can become a t-rex that can

00:01:39.969smash through obstacles a cheep-cheep

00:01:41.590that can breathe on the water and swim

00:01:43.060faster a frog to jump higher or my

00:01:45.280personal favorite and uproot which gives

00:01:47.350you the ability to stretch your legs to

00:01:49.149reach places that were previously

00:01:50.289unreachable and what's so great about

00:01:52.149all of these captures is how well they

00:01:53.889work with the different kingdoms actual

00:01:55.659design certain kingdoms will have

00:01:57.159special enemies that you'll find there

00:01:58.659whose captured ability to work perfect

00:02:00.459with the level design and the kingdoms

00:02:01.959are another sort of big change to the

00:02:03.520game each Kingdom has its own vibe its

00:02:05.829own enemies a costume that goes along

00:02:07.869with it and its own music honestly

00:02:09.849traveling through these different

00:02:11.140kingdoms kind of reminds me of Disney

00:02:12.879World

00:02:13.269each part of Disney's magic

00:02:14.590is themed differently and as soon as you

00:02:16.360walk into the next section you feel the

00:02:18.489tone change and you're totally immersed

00:02:20.110in where you are it's magical that's

00:02:21.819really the only way to describe it

00:02:34.959it's because it's weird and doesn't make

00:02:36.489sense never in a million years have ever

00:02:38.980imagined Mario running around a city

00:02:41.019resembling Manhattan it's just so weird

00:02:42.790to see cartoony look at Mario running

00:02:44.709around next to like normal people it

00:02:46.870doesn't make any sense but I think

00:02:48.069that's part of the fun part of what

00:02:49.750makes his kingdom so great is how the

00:02:51.400game itself looks colors pop and the

00:02:53.799game runs at a smooth 60 frames per

00:02:56.200second in both docked and handheld mode

00:02:58.540and while I personally prefer to play

00:03:00.310switch handheld this game is definitely

00:03:02.170best experienced on the big screen

00:03:04.150there's so much detail in the

00:03:05.560environments and small little things to

00:03:07.480notice and playing on the big screen

00:03:09.250just works really well here

00:03:10.629each Kingdom also has these amazing

00:03:12.099old-school 8-bit parts where after going

00:03:14.739through a pipe you're now running around

00:03:16.209as classic NES Mario on an old-school

00:03:18.970looking level and what's so great about

00:03:20.859these parts is they don't feel outdated

00:03:22.900they feel like old-school Mario but the

00:03:25.000levels also play like they're right out

00:03:26.440of Super Mario maker which goes along

00:03:28.150with what I was saying earlier with this

00:03:29.920game feeling super familiar but also

00:03:31.690really fresh the kingpins being so much

00:03:33.819fun to run around and in the game being

00:03:35.410so easily accessible is really good

00:03:37.239because exploration is the big focus

00:03:39.459here while you can jump into a new

00:03:41.139Kingdom do this story progressing

00:03:42.760objective and then move right along to

00:03:44.169the next one that really isn't seeing

00:03:46.359all this game has to offer each Kingdom

00:03:48.639has power moons it will be hunting down

00:03:50.349to power your ship the Odyssey the power

00:03:52.419moons are the equivalent of stars from

00:03:54.099Mario 64 and these power moons are

00:03:56.190everywhere there are so many of them

00:03:58.720some are in plain sight some are hidden

00:04:00.579the ones that aren't quite in plain

00:04:02.319sight are also hidden really well so

00:04:04.450there aren't totally impossible to find

00:04:05.980or get to but the placement is really

00:04:07.780smart and just like with getting stars

00:04:10.030in Mario 64 getting moons here feels

00:04:12.220really good even after getting a few

00:04:14.049hundred of them you still find yourself

00:04:15.579smiling and getting all excited each

00:04:17.590time you find one and when it comes to

00:04:19.269hunting down these moons you have a ton

00:04:20.739of different moves at your disposal this

00:04:24.640differently than we're used to and I'm

00:04:26.200not even talking about the whole

00:04:27.580happy thing it isn't a complete overhaul

00:04:34.479of them can actually get a little

00:04:44.919traversing the levels at your disposal

00:04:48.729somewhere but it's the motion controls

00:04:50.800that I'm not the biggest fan of when

00:04:52.629you're using the joy Kahn's like outside

00:04:54.520of the grip the motion controls are

00:04:55.750great they're natural

00:04:56.830they make sense they aren't hard

00:04:58.509personally I'm not the biggest fan of

00:05:00.280motion controls in general and I have

00:05:02.500really no complaints about how they feel

00:05:04.360but what I do have complaints about is

00:05:06.849how a good chunk of your moves can only

00:05:09.159be activated with motion controls which

00:05:11.469makes using the pro controller and the

00:05:12.969joy con grip kind of awkward and the

00:05:14.680same goes for playing in handheld which

00:05:16.180is how I prefer to play my switch now a

00:05:18.009lot of the moves you can still do but

00:05:19.750it's just really awkward to be flinging

00:05:21.340in my switch around and all these

00:05:22.569different directions and it's a bummer

00:05:24.129that they aren't mapable to buttons

00:05:25.569there are some moves that are mapped to

00:05:27.340buttons but they just don't feel as

00:05:29.139natural or they don't work as well for

00:05:30.879example you can throw copy in a circular

00:05:33.129motion by snapping the Joye cons both to

00:05:35.770one side or if you're playing on the pro

00:05:37.750controller you can spin the joystick

00:05:40.029until Mario starts spinning and then

00:05:41.919throw Kathy well it does work it just

00:05:44.050doesn't feel as natural then there are

00:05:46.029moves like throwing Kathy upward and

00:05:47.710downward that I'm pretty sure aren't

00:05:49.839mapped to buttons at least I haven't

00:05:51.639figured out how to do it yet this isn't

00:05:53.469gonna stop you from being able to play

00:05:55.150the game it's just a bummer I also just

00:05:56.889want to say that this is a very minor

00:05:58.360complaint it doesn't ruin the game but

00:06:00.550it's definitely worth mentioning but

00:06:02.110even with the motion controls this game

00:06:03.490is an absolute blast to play and when

00:06:05.379you actually finish the game there are

00:06:07.120so so much endgame content to take part

00:06:09.520in there's over 800 power moons to

00:06:11.560collect with certain ones being

00:06:12.849unobtainable until you've actually

00:06:14.110beaten the game there's more outfits to

00:06:16.270collect new NPCs to talk to new zones a

00:06:18.550new kingdom there's more than enough

00:06:19.930content here to keep you playing for

00:06:22.029some time after beating the game overall

00:06:24.190this game 100% lives up to the hype and

00:06:26.740it has that same magic that breath for a

00:06:28.389while does and will definitely hold up

00:06:30.219as one of the best switch games this

00:06:31.870isn't just another mario game but it's

00:06:33.789more of a mario memory I'll always

00:06:35.379remember playing this game and the fun

00:06:37.180that I had with it playing it reminds me

00:06:39.069of sitting on the floor in front of the
